Emily Wills wins the Frogmore Poetry Prize for the second year running

Gloucestershire poet Emily Wills has won the Frogmore Poetry Prize for the second year running, with her poem ‘Still Life with Lobster Pots’.  This year’s Prize (the 28th in its history) was adjudicated by Stephanie Norgate.  Janet Sutherland awarded Emily the Prize last year.  Emily Wills now becomes the fourth poet to have won the Prize more than once, joining the select company of Caroline Price (1988, 1990 and 1993), John Latham (1991, 1992) and Howard Wright (2004, 2009). She is the author of two collections of poems Diverting The Sea (The Rialto, 2000) and Developing The Negative (The Rialto, 2008). She won the Lisa Thomas Poetry Prize in 2010. First runner-up is Sharon Black, who herself won the Prize in 2011. Originally from Glasgow and a graduate of the University of Aberdeen, Sharon now lives in a remote part of southern France and is the author of To Know Bedrock (Pindrop Press).  See
 
Second runner-up is Wendy Klein.  Wendy was educated at the University of Utah and San Francisco State University and came to the UK in 1971.  She is the author of one novel, Listening for Nightingales (2002) and two collections of poetry from Cinnamon Press, most recently Anything In Turquoise.  See www.wendyklein.co.uk

Other poets shortlisted for the two-hundred guinea prize were Mara Bergman, Charles Evans, Judy Gahagan, Christopher North, CiarĂ¡n Parkes and Frances Corkey Thompson.  All shortlisted poems will be published in the 82nd number of The Frogmore Papers in September. Frogmore Poets read in Lewes in June

On Wednesday 12 June from 7.30 pm Margaret Wilmot launches her new pamphlet Sweet Coffee at the Lewes Arms.

On Thursday 27 June at 7.45pm Clare Best will be reading at Needlewriters with Brighton's John O'Donoghue and Sasha Dugdale, poet, translator and editor of Modern Poetry in Translation.
